
Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program
The Emergency Food and Shelter Program National Board is chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and consists of representatives from The Salvation Army, American Red Cross, United Jewish Communities, Catholic Charities USA, National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, and United Way Worldwide (who provides the administrative staff and functions as fiscal agent). United Way of Ocean County currently serves as Chair of the Local Board in the Ocean County, NJ district. The Local Board is made up of representatives from Ocean County government, service providers and community representatives who determine how the funds awarded to Ocean County are to be distributed among theEmergency Food and Shelter Programs run by local service organizations in the area. The Local Board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive funds and any additional funds available under the program.
Local organizations chosen to receive funds must:
- Be private, voluntary nonprofits or units of government
- Have an accounting system
- Practice non-discrimination
- Have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs
- Must have a voluntary board if they are private voluntary organization
