Special Projects have an impact on our community
In order to have a more focused community impact, United Way of Ocean County’s role has expanded over the past several years. Along with raising resources and matching them to programs that meet our prioritized needs, UWOC has initiated several special projects. Through these projects we are able to react quickly to developing needs and topical issues in our community.
2-1-1 is the widest reaching of our Special Projects so far. Across Ocean County, the 2-1-1 service has answered thousands of calls from residents needing help, from financial assistance and housing, to legal assistance and transportation.
The Community Impact Special Funding Initiative is the first example of UWOC offering multi-year funding to a United Way of Ocean County Certified Agency that can have a meaningful impact on an Emphasis Level I priority need in Ocean County as determined by the 2007 Needs Prioritization Report.
Financial Stability Initiative is a comprehensive plan to address a void in financial literacy for residents of Ocean County. By delivering financial literacy education about EITC, establishing VITA sites in strategic locations, and coordinating financial literacy for youth in public school classrooms, UWOC hopes to begin to impact the financial health of all people in Ocean County, but especially the underserved populations who may feel disconnected from financial institutions.
United Way of Ocean County has made available 8,000 free FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards in order to help people, especially seniors and families with young children, lower the cost of medicine.
