Special Projects have an impact on our community

In order to have a more focused community impact, United Way of Ocean County’s role has expanded over the past several years.  Along with raising resources and matching them to programs that meet our prioritized needs, UWOC has initiated several special projects.  Through these projects we are able to react quickly to developing needs and topical issues in our community.

2-1-1 is the widest reaching of our Special Projects so far. Across Ocean County, the 2-1-1 service has answered thousands of calls from residents needing help, from financial assistance and housing, to legal assistance and transportation.

The Community Impact Special Funding Initiative is the first example of UWOC offering multi-year funding to a United Way of Ocean County Certified Agency that has a meaningful impact on the community in the area of Education, Income or Health. UWOC is proud to have The Children's Home Society's CUNA program as the first to receive funding in this way.

The Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP) is a federally funded program administered by the United Way of Ocean County. It is designed to help individuals and families who have experienced a temporary life change which causes financial stress, leading to eviction or the threat of homelessness.

United Way of Ocean County has made available 8,000 free FamilyWize prescription drug discount cards in order to help people, especially seniors and families with young children, lower the cost of medicine.

United Way of Ocean County currently serves as Chair of the Local Board in the Ocean County, NJ district for the Emergency Food and Shelter Program. We are expecting the Emergency Food and Shelter Program, Phase 29 funding process to begin shortly. A message will be sent out and updates to the page will made as soon as we know when it will begin. Please call (732) 240-0311 for any questions.
