UNITED WAY OF OCEAN COUNTY AND INVESTORS SAVINGS BANK CHARITABLE FOUNDATION PARTNER FOR FINANCIAL STABILITY

Thanks to a $15,000 grant from Investors Savings Bank Charitable Foundation, United Way of Ocean County Financial Stability Partner Program will present a regional Earned Income Tax Credit and Financial Stability Conference to the public in the Fall of 2008.

With this grant, Investors Savings Bank joins United Way of Ocean County’s mission to work to advance the common good by focusing on education, income and health. United Way believes that these are the building blocks for a good life.

Kevin Cummings, CEO, Investors Savings Bank feels that “this is an excellent way for Investors Savings Bank to reinvest resources back into the communities in which we do business. The United Way of Ocean County enjoys a reputation for its attention to the prioritized needs of the community. We are very happy to partner with United Way to promote financial literacy in Ocean County.”

Information about the IRS Earned Income Tax Credit program is high on United Way’s agenda because although this is the strongest anti-poverty program the government has sponsored to date, 15 to 25 percent of eligible residents in Ocean County did not file a claim, representing over six million dollars according to the IRS' most recent data. This is due to the unfortunate fact that correct information reached too few families, and too few families had access to free IRS endorsed VITA sites. One of the goals of United Way of Ocean County's Financial Stability Initiative is to remedy this situation.

“We launched our Financial Stability Partner Program in February of this year with our first Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) seminar. By delivering financial literacy education about EITC, establishing VITA sites in strategic locations, coordinating financial literacy for youth in public school classrooms, and delivering financial literacy workshops to parents with young children, we hope to begin to impact the financial health of all people in Ocean County, but especially the underserved populations who may feel disconnected from financial institutions. We are so pleased to welcome Investors Savings Bank as a partner.” Anu Gupta, United Way of Ocean County Executive Director.
