HOVNANIAN FOUNDATION SPONSORS UNITED WAY OF OCEAN COUNTY EITC - EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT AWARENESS CONFERENCE.
Did you know that over $40 million dollars in Federal and State income credits were claimed by 22,000 Ocean County residents in 2006? Are you aware that over six million dollars went unclaimed in Ocean County? Have you ever heard of Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)? All these questions were addressed at a February 2008 conference held in partnership with United Way of Ocean County and the generous support of the Hovnanian Foundation
Although this is the strongest anti poverty program that the government has to date, 15 to 25 percent of eligible residents did not file a claim. This is due to the correct information not reaching families and not having access to free IRS endorsed Volunteer Income Tax Sites (VITA). One example of EITC benefiting our community, a working family with 2 or more children earning under $38349 per year is eligible for $4536.00 in additional refunds. They can file for credit up to three years prior, if not previously claimed, which can result in a life changing amount of money.
Local employers, human service and government agencies will be invited to join local, State and Federal officials with the purpose of obtaining accurate and practical information that would increase the wage of low and moderate income individuals and families at no cost to the employer.
