Day of Caring
On Tuesday, June 21, 2011 we held our first Day of Caring in about 4 years, and it was a HUGE SUCCESS! The goal of the day was to mobilize the community and promote the spirit of volunteering. Over 70 hard-working volunteers, both individuals and groups from local companies, came out for the day and completed projects at some of our Partner Agencies. These projects ranged from painting rooms in shelters and group homes to helping an agency prepare for a fundraising event. Nine different agencies provided 11 different volunteer sites spanning all of Ocean County, including Toms River, Lakewood, Barnegat, Whiting, Beachwood, and Brick. The outcome of the day was extremely positive due to volunteers' dedication to helping these agencies that give so much to the community throughout the entire year.
"I was pleased to see how engaged and excited all of our volunteers were who participated in Day of Caring. Especially because these projects made such a difference for these committed charities that often don't have the resources to work on these facility and service enhancement activities." - Linda Gyimoty, Executive Director of UWOC
"…without groups so generously donating their time we simply would not be able to address these projects with our limited resources." - Diane Hutton-Rose, 21 Plus
